Quotes
"An absolutely ruthless explosive jam-funk driven sound with flashes of reggae, hip-hop, and even prog rock."
Fraizer, Chicago Jam Scene
"Successfully incorporates keys, trumpet, flute, saxophone and percussion to highlight the originality...I can’t help but visualize live crowd participation...If I had to sum this album up in one word, I’d go with Energy"
Mike Patti, The Pier
"The HYPE IS REAL: Midwest Hype may be this area’s next Umphrey’s McGee. The band’s that good and, maybe, that driven. Midwest Hype blends funk, jazz and hip-hop into an exhilarating, dynamic mix of styles..."
Andrew S. Hughes, South Bend Tribune
"Midwest Hype...The Mousetrap dance floor was thick for the duration of two full sets and crowd activity was high. Through happy music that never drags and personalities that keep a smile on every face, the band makes sure that fun is had by all. "
Danielle Look, Indymojo.com
About Midwest Hype
Midwest Hype started in Northwest IN in drummer Max’s father’s barn. Parties with Midwest Hype as the “house band” led to shows in the surrounding areas including Chicago and college towns where the boys attended their respective schools. They added their keyboards and horns while attending Ball State University.
Midwest Hype cut two EP’s in ’05 and ’06 and in 2008 released their first LP called 'Colorful Love' recorded at Gravity Studios in Chicago. They have toured to FL, GA, VA, OH, IL, MI, LA, and TX for SXSW. Midwest Hype have performed at several festivals including Head Jamz Music Fest, Summer Camp Music Fest, the Indianapolis 500, Green Music Fest, Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Fest, and North Coast Music Festival. They have opened for Cory Chisel, Papadosio, The Ragbirds, Trampled By Turtles, The Wailers, Umphree’s McGee, The Wailers, Rusted Root, and GIRL TALK.
Midwest Hype released DAYGLOW on Jan 5th with a sold out show at Schuba’s in Chicago and followed up the show with a high attendance show at House of Blues Chicago.
